One time, while working at a feedlot operation, I had to make a decision under pressure when a sudden storm caused a power outage. Without electricity, the feedlot's ventilation system stopped working, which could have led to heat stress in the animals. I immediately gathered the team and came up with a plan to manually ventilate the barns using portable fans and opened all available windows for cross ventilation. We also organized a system to monitor the temperature inside the barns using handheld thermometers. Despite the challenging circumstances, we were able to maintain a safe and suitable environment for the animals until the power was restored. Thankfully, none of the animals experienced any health issues during the outage.
