Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a difficult animal-related challenge and how you resolved it.

One time, I encountered a difficult animal-related challenge while working at a zoo. We had a gorilla who was showing signs of aggression towards the other gorillas in the exhibit. This was a serious issue as it could lead to injuries or even death. To resolve the challenge, I first conducted a thorough behavioral analysis to understand the underlying cause of the aggression. After consulting with the zoo's veterinarian and primate experts, we determined that the gorilla was experiencing territorial issues. To address this, we implemented a new enrichment program that provided the gorilla with more mental stimulation and opportunity for social interaction. Additionally, we modified the exhibit layout to create additional space and separate areas for each gorilla. These changes helped alleviate the aggression and improve the overall social dynamics within the exhibit. It was a challenging process, but by closely monitoring the behavior of the gorillas and continuously adjusting our approach, we were able to successfully resolve the difficult animal-related challenge.

While working as an Animal Curator, I faced a complex animal-related challenge involving a group of chimpanzees with aggressive behavior towards each other. This situation required a multidisciplinary approach to address the underlying causes and promote a harmonious social environment. I initiated a team consisting of the zoo's veterinarian, primate behaviorist, and zookeepers to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the chimpanzees' behavior, social hierarchy, and environmental factors.
