An Animal Curator is responsible for the management and care of a collection of animals at a zoo, aquarium, or wildlife conservation facility. This position involves overseeing the animal welfare, exhibit design, supervising staff, and ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and standards.

Qualifications

Understanding of local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to the care and keeping of animals.
Proven experience with staff supervision and exhibit maintenance.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement animal management policies and procedures.
Ensure the health and well-being of all animals including administering medication and managing diets.
Coordinate with veterinary staff to provide the necessary medical care for the animals.
Design and maintain animal exhibits that accurately mimic natural habitats and stimulate natural behaviors.
Manage breeding programs to ensure genetic diversity and sustainability of species.
Supervise and train zookeeping staff on proper animal care techniques.
Collaborate with conservationists, researchers, and educational departments to promote wildlife conservation efforts.
Prepare and manage the departmental budget and resources.
