Qualifications

Completion of a graduate or postgraduate nursing program in pediatric oncology or a closely related specialty.
Eligibility to obtain a prescriptive authority in the state of practice.
BLS (Basic Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certifications.
Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in mentoring nursing staff.
Proof of continuing education credits in pediatric oncology nursing and related topics.
Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive care to pediatric patients diagnosed with cancer, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.
Collaborate with pediatric oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement treatment plans.
Educate patients and their families on disease processes, treatment options, and care strategies.
Manage chemotherapy administration, monitor for side effects, and adjust care plans as necessary.
Lead nursing staff in the oncology department, providing training and mentorship to less experienced nurses.
Engage in research activities to contribute to advancements in pediatric oncology nursing practices.
Ensure all nursing practices adhere to regulatory and ethical standards specific to pediatric oncology.
Actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to review patient progress and adjust treatments as needed.
Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and their families, helping them navigate the challenges of cancer treatment.
Conduct ongoing evaluation of patient outcomes and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
