Summary of the Role
An Aerospace Medicine Physician, also known as a Flight Surgeon, specializes in the health and well-being of people who work in the air and space environments, including pilots, astronauts, and flight crew. This role requires a unique combination of clinical medicine, preventive medicine, and the understanding of the human body's response to the stressors of flight, such as G-force, hypobaric conditions, and potential radiation exposure.

Qualifications
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
Valid state medical license to practice medicine.
Completion of a residency program in Aerospace Medicine, Occupational Medicine, or another relevant field.
Board certification or eligibility for certification in Aerospace Medicine.
Experience with the aviation industry or military flight operations is advantageous.
Ability to obtain a security clearance if necessary.
Responsibilities
Provide medical evaluation, care, and advice for pilots, astronauts, and flight crew members.
Assess and manage the impact of aviation and space flight on individual health.
Conduct research on the health risks associated with air and space travel and develop preventive strategies.
Collaborate with aerospace engineers to design and implement interventions that mitigate health risks in flight environments.
Advise on medical qualifications for pilots and crew members, and participate in the selection process.
Implement health and wellness programs to enhance personnel readiness and performance.
Respond to in-flight medical emergencies and guide the medical training of flight crews.
Participate in incident investigations related to health and safety in the aerospace environment.
