Strong knowledge of state and federal insurance laws and regulations
Work experience with underwriting software and analytical tools
Professional certification in underwriting (e.g., Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)) is an asset
Responsibilities
Evaluate and analyze insurance applications to assess risk levels and eligibility for auto insurance policies
Determine coverage levels and premiums based on risk assessments and underwriting guidelines
Consult with brokers, agents, and clients to negotiate terms and explain underwriting decisions
Keep abreast of legal, regulatory, and market changes that may affect underwriting criteria and risk assessment processes
Collaborate with actuaries, claims adjusters, and other insurance professionals to manage and mitigate risks
Lead, train, and mentor junior underwriters and underwriting staff
Develop underwriting strategies and guidelines that ensure competitive pricing and risk management
Review and update underwriting policies and standards in alignment with company goals and regulatory requirements
Manage a portfolio of accounts and make decisions to renew or modify existing policies
Respond to complex inquiries and resolve escalated underwriting issues
