Summary of the Role
A Nephrology Nurse Practitioner is a specialized Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) who focuses on the care of patients with kidney diseases and related conditions. This role requires advanced knowledge in nephrology nursing, as well as experience in managing chronic kidney diseases, dialysis, and post-transplant care.

Qualifications
Current and valid Nurse Practitioner license.
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) preferred.
Certification as a Nephrology Nurse (CNN-NP) or must be obtained within a certain timeframe after employment.
At least 2 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner, with a preference for experience in nephrology or a related field.
Completion of an APRN program with a focus on nephrology is advantageous.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
Responsibilities
Conduct initial patient screenings and assessments focused on kidney function and overall health.
Develop and implement care plans for patients with chronic kidney diseases, including those undergoing dialysis.
Monitor patients for changes in kidney function and adjust treatment plans as needed.
Prescribe medications and therapies appropriate for kidney disease management and complications.
Educate patients and their families on kidney health, disease management, and lifestyle changes to promote renal health.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including nephrologists, to provide comprehensive care.
Participate in research and stay updated on advancements in nephrology nursing practices.
