Summary of the Role
As a Junior Equine Veterinarian, you will be responsible for providing medical care to horses, conducting routine check-ups, vaccinations, and treatments, and assisting senior veterinarians with surgeries and emergency responses. This role requires a strong foundation in veterinary medicine, specifically relating to equines, passion for animal welfare, and the ability to work effectively in both clinical and field environments.
Required Skills
Clinical skills specific to equine care, such as drawing blood, administering IVs, and performing physical examinations.
Basic surgical skills and knowledge of anesthesia for equines.
Problem-solving abilities to diagnose and treat a wide range of health issues in horses.
Knowledge of pharmacology relevant to equine medications and treatments.
Compassion and patience in handling animals, particularly horses.
Time management and organizational skills.
Qualifications
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited veterinary college.
State licensure to practice veterinary medicine.
Experience in equine medicine during veterinary school (rotations, externships, or internships).
Strong understanding of equine anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
Ability to work well under pressure in emergency situations.
Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with horse owners and veterinary team members.
Responsibilities
Conduct routine check-ups and administer vaccinations to prevent diseases.
Diagnose and treat medical conditions in horses, from minor ailments to chronic diseases.
Assist in surgeries and other medical procedures under the guidance of senior veterinarians.
Provide emergency first-aid care to horses in cases of accidents or acute illness.
Collaborate with horse owners to develop preventive care plans and provide education on horse health and welfare.
Maintain accurate medical records and ensure confidentiality of all patient information.
Participate in continuing education to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in equine veterinary medicine.
