Summary of the Role
Forensic Nurse Practitioners are specialized healthcare professionals who apply their nursing knowledge and skills to support the legal system. They primarily work with patients who are victims of violence, abuse, or trauma and collaborate with law enforcement to collect evidence and provide expert testimony in court. An intermediate Forensic Nurse Practitioner is expected to assist with complex cases, exhibit autonomy in practice, and provide leadership in forensic nursing situations.

Certification in forensic nursing (e.g., Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) is preferred.
Ability to provide care with a non-judgmental and objective approach.
Must have a thorough understanding of legal and ethical issues related to forensic nursing.
Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive and compassionate examinations of individuals who have experienced violence or trauma.
Collect, document, and preserve forensic evidence in adherence to legal standards.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including law enforcement, legal professionals, and healthcare providers.
Provide expert testimony in court as required.
Engage in continuous education to remain current with forensic nursing practices.
Lead or participate in violence prevention and community advocacy programs.
Offer support and referrals to patients for follow-up care, including mental health services.
Mentor junior nurses and contribute to the development of forensic nursing protocols and policies.
