An Orthopedic Oncologist specializes in diagnosing and treating cancers of the musculoskeletal system. This includes bone and soft tissue sarcomas as well as metastatic diseases to the bone. Responsibilities
Diagnose and manage orthopedic cancer cases including bone sarcomas, soft tissue sarcomas, and metastatic bone diseases.
Develop and implement treatment plans that may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or palliative care in coordination with other oncology specialists.
Perform complex surgical procedures to remove tumors while preserving limb function whenever possible, and undertaking reconstructive surgeries as required.
Provide consultations to other physicians and healthcare providers about orthopedic oncological concerns.
Participate in tumor boards and multidisciplinary case conferences to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Lead and mentor junior staff, medical students, and residents.
Conduct and engage in clinical trials and research studies to advance the field of orthopedic oncology.
Stay abreast of the latest developments in oncology and implement best practices in patient care.
