Summary of the Role
As a Gastrointestinal Nurse Practitioner, you will work collaboratively with a team of healthcare professionals to manage patient care in the realm of gastrointestinal health. You will be expected to provide comprehensive care and treatment plans for patients with various gastrointestinal disorders, such as acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and more. A focus on patient education, prevention, and wellness is critical in this role, along with staying current with the latest treatments and technologies in gastrointestinal medicine.
Required Skills
Strong clinical skills with an emphasis on patient assessment and management.
Proficient in endoscopic procedures and other diagnostic tests related to GI health.

Qualifications
Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in the state of practice.
Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with a focus on Gastroenterology.
Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in gastroenterology or a related field.
Certification as a Gastroenterology Nurse Practitioner preferred.
DEA licensure for prescriptive authority.
Responsibilities
Conduct patient assessments and develop individualized care plans for those with gastrointestinal disorders.
Prescribe medications, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and provide appropriate referrals when necessary.
Perform procedures such as endoscopies and colonoscopies within the delegated scope of practice.
Collaborate with physicians, surgeons, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care and outcomes.
Educate patients and their families on gastrointestinal health, disease prevention, and management strategies.
Maintain comprehensive patient records and document all care provided in accordance with regulatory and practice standards.
Participate in ongoing professional development to ensure best practices in gastroenterology nursing care.
Offer support and counseling to patients undergoing diagnostic tests and treatments for gastrointestinal issues.
