Summary of the Role
The Labor and Delivery Nurse plays a pivotal role in the maternity ward, providing care and support to women before, during, and after childbirth. This nurse works closely with a healthcare team to ensure the safety and health of both mother and baby. They assist with all stages of the birthing process, including labor, delivery, and postpartum care.

Qualifications
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in labor and delivery.
Certification in fetal monitoring.
Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Responsibilities
Monitor the mother's vital signs and fetal heart rate, and chart this information for staff.
Educate and support expecting mothers and their families throughout the childbirth process.
Assist in the development and implementation of patient care plans.
Administer medications as ordered by the physician and monitor for reactions.
Provide immediate care to newborns following delivery.
Assist with the induction of labor and other medical procedures.
Facilitate communication among medical team, patients, and family members.
Ensure that all medical equipment is functioning properly.
Prepare mothers and families for the home transition post childbirth.
Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
