Summary of the Role
The Zoological Registrar is responsible for overseeing the records and permits relating to the animals and specimens within a zoo or similar institution. They play a key role in ensuring the legal compliance with local, state, and international wildlife regulations, managing animal inventory, and liaising with conservation groups and other zoos.

Qualifications

Working knowledge of ZIMS (Zoological Information Management System) or similar animal record database.
Familiarity with CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) and other wildlife trade regulations.
Experience in acquiring necessary permits for wildlife transactions.
Responsibilities
Maintain accurate records of animal births, deaths, transfers, and medical procedures.
Ensure all transactions comply with local, state, and federal laws and accreditations.
Coordinate with zoological staff and management to oversee animal acquisitions and dispositions.
Liaise with government authorities and external organizations for permits and reporting requirements.
Manage the database systems for tracking animal records and generate reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Assist with conservation efforts and breeding programs by providing essential data.
Collaborate with educational departments to provide accurate information for zoo guests.
