Summary of the Role
An Oncology Nurse Practitioner (ONP) is a highly skilled healthcare professional specialized in the care of patients with cancer. As a senior role, the ONP is responsible for providing advanced nursing care in oncology settings, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients' health conditions. They work closely with oncologists, other healthcare professionals, and patient families to ensure comprehensive care.

Qualifications
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license and Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) or equivalent.
Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP), with specialty in oncology.
Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in an oncology setting.
Valid prescriber authority and DEA license.
CPR and ACLS certification preferred.
Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) preferred.
Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive and targeted physical examinations to assess patients with cancer.
Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with oncology physicians.
Prescribe medications, chemotherapy, and other therapies as needed.
Monitor patient responses to treatments and adjust care plans as necessary.
Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding cancer treatments and side effects.
Coordinate care with other healthcare providers to ensure multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.
Participate in research studies and contribute to the development of oncology nursing practices.
Maintain accurate and detailed medical records.
Act as a mentor to junior nursing staff and contribute to their professional development.
