Summary of the Role
A Building Inspector is responsible for examining buildings and construction sites to ensure that they comply with local, state, and federal codes and regulations. They assess structural quality, risk, safety, and compliance throughout various stages of construction and communicate findings with construction managers, property owners, and government agencies.
Required Skills

Qualifications
Diploma in building technology, architecture, civil engineering, or a related field.
Acquired or willing to acquire relevant certifications, such as International Code Council (ICC) certification.
Familiarity with building codes, regulations, and inspection procedures.
Ability to read and interpret building plans and blueprints.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify safety hazards and violations.
Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact with construction professionals and property owners.
Responsibilities
Conduct inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings to ensure compliance with codes and safety regulations.
Evaluate building plans and permits to ensure they meet necessary specifications and zoning regulations.
Identify violations and unsafe conditions and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
Collaborate with architects, engineers, and construction personnel to understand plans and discuss inspection results.
Document inspection processes and results, and maintain records for legal and administrative purposes.
Provide assistance to the public, answering questions regarding construction codes and compliance issues.
Attend and contribute to training sessions to stay updated with the latest building codes and inspection techniques.
