Summary of the Role
As a Senior Habitat Designer, you'll lead innovative design projects focused on creating sustainable and life-supporting environments for various species, encompassing zoos, aquariums, and research facilities. You'll apply your extensive knowledge in ecology, architecture, and environmental sciences to develop habitats that not only aesthetically please but also meet all the physical and psychological needs of the inhabitants.

Qualifications

Demonstrated experience with ecological systems, environmental sustainability practices, and species-specific requirements.
Strong portfolio showcasing innovative habitat design projects.
Experience leading project teams and working collaboratively with cross-disciplinary groups.
Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and environmental laws.
Certification or licensure in architecture or environmental design (preferred).
Responsibilities
Lead habitat design projects from concept through completion, ensuring all habitat designs meet the required standards for safety, wellness, and environmental sustainability.
Collaborate with zoologists, marine biologists, and other environmental experts to gather requirements for different species' habitats.
Conduct research and apply innovative approaches to simulate natural environments that cater to the health and wellbeing of species in managed care settings.
Oversee the integration of technological solutions that monitor and maintain optimal habitat conditions.
Communicate with stakeholders and present design proposals, including detailed plans, renderings, and budget estimates.
Mentor junior designers and provide guidance in specialized design techniques and best practices for habitat creation.
Ensure compliance with industry regulations and environmental laws related to habitat construction and maintenance.
Assess the impact of habitat designs on the behavior and health of species and make adjustments as necessary.
