Summary of the Role
The Public Works Director is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of the public works department, which may include water and sewage systems, roads, parks, and other public facilities. The individual in this role must ensure that all projects are completed efficiently, within budget, and to the satisfaction of the community.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, public administration, or a related field.

Understanding of public works operations, including infrastructure development and maintenance.
Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
Responsibilities
Oversee the planning, operation, and maintenance of the public works department.
Develop and manage departmental budgets, and ensure cost-effective allocation of resources.
Collaborate with government agencies, contractors, and community stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Implement and evaluate projects to improve infrastructure and public services.
Direct the preparation and maintenance of required reports and records.
Respond to public inquiries and complaints regarding public works issues.
Supervise staff, including hiring, training, evaluating, and disciplining.
