Summary of the Role
The Set Decorator is a key creative professional responsible for selecting, designing, and overseeing the installation of all set decoration elements within film, television, and theater productions. Working closely with the production designer and art director, the Set Decorator helps bring to life the environment in which the characters interact, ensuring that it is in line with the production's aesthetic and narrative requirements.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Interior Design, Theater Design or a related field preferred.
2-5 years of experience in set decoration or a related field.
Portfolio showcasing previous work and ability to design within a variety of styles and genres.
Understanding of the film and television production process, including the role of different departments and how set decoration fits into the larger picture.
Knowledge of various historical periods, architecture, and interior design styles is advantageous.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with the production designer to understand the visual style of the production and establish set decoration requirements.
Research, select and acquire furniture, fabrics, fixtures, and props that fit the design concepts.
Manage budgets and schedules related to set decoration.
Supervise the set dressing crew to ensure proper placement and installation of decor elements.
Work with the art department to integrate set decor into the overall design.
Ensure continuity of set decoration throughout the filming process.
Coordinate with other departments to ensure that set decoration aligns with lighting, camera movements, and actor blocking.
Source specialty items and manage custom builds when required.
Maintain an inventory of all set decoration elements and oversee their return or disposal post-production.
