Summary of the Role
As a Senior Tax Specialist, you will play a crucial role in our finance department, providing expert guidance on tax-related matters and ensuring compliance with various tax regulations. You will be responsible for the preparation, review, and filing of company tax documents, as well as staying up-to-date with changes in tax laws and advising on tax planning strategies. Your expertise will help our company optimize its tax position and mitigate risks associated with tax obligations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; a Master's degree or CPA is strongly preferred.
Minimum of 5 years' experience in tax accounting, with a proven track record of managing complex tax issues.
Thorough knowledge of tax laws and regulations at the federal, state, and local levels.
Experience with tax software and good knowledge of accounting and financial reporting systems.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively explain complex tax concepts to non-specialists.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
Lead the preparation and filing of corporate tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
Provide expert advice on a wide range of tax issues, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, and tax implications of business decisions.
Oversee tax planning and strategy development to optimize the company's tax position and reduce tax liabilities.
Liaise with tax authorities and external auditors, managing tax audits and disputes, and negotiating settlements when necessary.
Review and update internal tax policies and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance and efficiency in tax processes.
Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicating the implications of these changes to senior management and adjusting strategies accordingly.
Mentor and train junior tax staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development within the tax team.
